IRS Has $110 Million in returned Refund Checks Print E-mail

If you have not yet received your 2006 tax refunds, IRS might have failed to deliver your refund check due to delivery problems! IRS is looking for hundreds of taxpayers to give their tax refund and is holding returned checks worth $110 million dollars. All you need to do is update your address to get your refund checks.

A refund check is normally returned as undeliverable when a taxpayer moves without updating his or her address with either the U.S. Postal Service or the IRS. A taxpayer can also ensure the IRS has his or her correct address by filing Form 8822, Change of Address.

You can use Where’s My Refund? web tool to check whether your refund is held by IRS. You must submit social security number, filing status and amount of refund shown on your 2006 return, and the tool will provide the status of your tax refund. If the refund is held up due to delivery problems, it will provide instructions on how to resolve it. You can also call 1-800-829-1954 for the same.

Again this is another reason to sign up for Direct Deposit while filing your tax return. You will get your tax refund fast as well as avoid any problems related to delivery of checks, lost or stolen refund checks, etc. With direct deposit you can receive refunds directly into personal checking or savings accounts electronically and no mailing is involved.
