A state claim taxes for the period I haven't lived 2006/10/10 12:32 Karma: 0
A state I used to live long ago noticed I haven't been paying taxes for the last ten years. I moved out the state 12 years back and now they want back taxes, interest and penalties for the past ten years. They are not accepting any proof of non residence like drivers liscense, property title, voter registration, but won't tell me what they will accept as proof. Any other ideas other than paying a few years income?

I have not lived or worked there and had no income from the state for those ten years.

Do NOT let this slide.Better if everything is done in writing. You might submit photocopies of your tax returns for the state in which you worked with the W-2 copies showing your resident state on them. Contact their problem resolution officer, if they have one. You must be AGGRESSIVE with this or they will run over you.  If they do not back off, I recommend that you write to your congress men and congress men of their state, giving the name, address of the person etc of that state and send photocopies to that person.
