If you're thinking of purchasing a hybrid car or SUV, ask the dealer
about the credits. This credit is available only to the first buyer. If you are leasing, you will not qualify for credit, but the company which owns the car can calim this credit. and you can bargain for better lease terms.

The credit amount various with the company and IRS maintains a list at http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=157632,00.html containing the vehicle brand names and the credit for each one of them.
