Find Tax Services

I got audited for the tax return for 2004. The tax return was prepared by a tax professional and I paid him. The IRS audit is costing me 4K. Is this my resonsiblity, or the Tax professionals. I am not sure why it happend. I gave all the tax papers asked by the tax professional and he said he will take care of it. where can I get irs tax problem help ?. Is there any irs tax help phone number which give me assistance.

The tax filer (you) is ultimately responsible for the tax return and what is in it. If the tax preparer was negligent, you might be able to go back after them for any penalties and interest you might incur. If you receive anything that looks tax related, you should forward that to your tax preparer. (Maybe not this one though!)

I am trying to contact him, but was not able to so far. Can I ask him to pay the penalties ? What options i have if he refuses to do so ? I can't pay this tax debt as I just don't have that kind of money.

Will this affect my tax history ?
