I am a new optometrist and I am about to begin independent contracting with a local optical chain. If I choose a C corp it will be a personal service corp. So the options I am weighing are 1) remaining a professional corp and paying any remaining corporate income at the end of year as bonuses to avoid the flat tax rate. 2) designating 6% stock to my spouse who is not an employee of the corporation to avoid the professional corp designation or 3) taking the S corp election to disperse income to the lower personal tax rate.
